"THE FORMATIVE YEARS" of a child's life, most crucial!

You all must have heard this from many people, and you must have seen this piece of information in some child based advertisments too, but, do you really know why those five years are the most important? Some of us know, most of us don't right? That's ok, because we've got all that covered in this blog.

Firstly, there are stages a human goes through, from the time of conception: "The Pre-natal Period", "Infancy", "Babyhood", "Early Childhood" and Late Childhood. It's so amazing that a child's brain doubles in size in the first year, and grows to about 80% of an adult's size by age 3 and by age 5, its nearly 90% fully grown. These years are called "The formative years", and these years are the most important, because chidren learn more quickly during the early years, than at any stage in their life.

Early foundations are critical because, attitudes, habits, and patterns of behaviour establish during the early years, determine to a large extent, how successfully people will adjust to life, as they grow older and since early foundations are likely to be persistent, it is important that they be of the kind, that will lead to good personal and social adjustments as the person grows older.

So these 5 years are unquestionably the period, that lays the foundation, for the complex behaviour structures that are built in a child's lifetime

Not only that, it is in this stage, that children start, creeping, sitting and walking, they start to mature slowly, there are orderly patterns of physical, motor, speech and intellectual development unless environment conditions prevent it, the development will follow a pattern similar for all babies.

It is in this age mainly, that the five senses (tactile, visual, auditory, olfactory and gustatory) are truly refined and developed and children are particularly receptive to developing their senses at this age(the first 5 years) and its important to give them a lot of sensorial experiences as possible, this is mainly what we focus on in our school,this is also what montessori system consists of as a whole.
